What a Fractional CFO Actually Does for a Growing Company

Most owners in Prescott and across Northern Arizona already pay someone to keep the books. Many also work with a CPA when a return or a lender package is due. What they often do not have is a person whose standing job is to look forward: Can we hire this spring? Can we take this contract? Will cash cover the next six payrolls if a customer pays late?

That forward look is the work of a chief financial officer. A fractional CFO does the same work on a part-time or project basis. David describes three lanes on his CFO services page: cash-flow optimization, forecasting and budgeting, and strategic growth guidance. This series is financial leadership for operating companies—not a tax-filing briefing.

Three jobs that get mixed together

A bookkeeper records what already happened. Compliance work packages those records for a return, a board, or a bank. CFO work uses the same records to decide what happens next. The three roles support one another. They do not replace one another. If the books are late, the CFO conversation cannot start. If the books are current and the owner is still guessing, the missing piece is leadership, not another software login.

What the week-to-week work looks like

Build or repair a rolling cash view—often thirteen weeks. Compare budget to actuals and write down why the variance happened. Keep profit and cash in separate conversations. Test hires, equipment, and prices before money moves. Put numbers in a form a banker can read. See LiaFi on cash-flow responsibilities and davidasnydercpa.com.

What this is not

This article does not promise a fixed dollar of savings. Results depend on the books, the honesty of the forecast, and whether the owner will act. Clean transactions are the floor. Leadership is the ceiling.
