Prescott, Arizona — Longtime Quad Cities resident Bruce Paul has completed a literary journey more than a decade in the making. The release of Artama & The New Kingdom marks the conclusion of his ambitious speculative fiction trilogy The Artama Legend, published by Writers Publishing House.
In an exclusive conversation with Bridge AZ, Paul reflected on the significance of finishing the series. “It feels like closing a very long and meaningful chapter,” he said. “Artama’s story has been with me for many years.”
Paul, who graduated with honors from Ohio University in 1967 with degrees in philosophy and creative writing, brings a remarkably diverse life experience to his work. From participating in the Summer of Love in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury to playing in a folk-rock band, teaching school in the Virgin Islands, counseling inmates in a maximum-security prison, and working in banking and real estate, his background adds layers of depth rarely found in fantasy literature.
The Artama Legend series follows a curious boy named Artama who leaves his seemingly perfect world on planet E3 in search of truth. The trilogy is unique because it matures with its readers:
- Artama & The Book of Knowledge & Wisdom: The First Journey appeals to younger readers and adults alike.
- Artama & The Watchtower Portal: The Second Journey takes on young adult themes.
- Artama & The New Kingdom: The Third Journey explores complex philosophical and adult-oriented questions about power, freedom, and destiny.
Readers have praised the series for its rich world-building, lyrical writing style, and thought-provoking exploration of universal themes. Many say the books reward multiple readings as new philosophical insights emerge.
When asked about the inspiration behind the series, Paul pointed to both his academic training in philosophy and the natural beauty of Northern Arizona. “Living among the ponderosa pines in the mountains here has had a profound effect on my writing,” he shared. “The landscape encourages big questions about existence and purpose.”
The completion of the trilogy is being celebrated as a milestone for Prescott’s growing literary community. While Northern Arizona is better known for its Western heritage and outdoor recreation, writers like Bruce Paul are helping establish the region as a place that also nurtures creative and philosophical voices.
Writers Publishing House, an independent publisher committed to unique literary works, took on the project and helped bring all three books to market in both paperback and eBook formats.
Paul expressed gratitude to the publisher for believing in the project. He also thanked local readers who have supported the series over the years through book clubs, library events, and personal recommendations.
For those new to the series, Paul recommends starting with the first book, noting that each volume builds upon the last while remaining accessible. The books are available through major online retailers and local bookstores.
The release of Artama & The New Kingdom comes at an interesting time, as many readers seek stories that offer both escape and deeper meaning amid uncertain times. Paul’s work appears to fill that need for many in the Quad Cities and beyond.
As Prescott continues to grow, stories like Bruce Paul’s remind residents of the creative talent that calls Northern Arizona home. His completion of The Artama Legend stands as a testament to persistence, philosophical curiosity, and the power of local storytelling.
